Summary:

“Atomic Blonde” is the latest action movie in theaters starring Charlize Theron as a badass post Cold War era spy and is directed by David Leitch. The film also stars James McAvoy, John Goodman, Sofia Boutella and Toby Jones. The plot of the film is that Lorraine Broughton (Theron) must travel to Berlin to recover a list containing the identities of double agents and she gets help from David Percival (McAvoy), a British agent who has been living there for some time. The film chooses to tell the story from a flashback point of view which would have been fine except for the fact that it is handled sloppily. The music in the film is filled to the brim with New Wave 80s hits that are played to the action. The action for the most part is fine until the third act where it becomes a one-shot extravaganza that really shows the character of Lorraine at her most vulnerable. The colors and lighting in the film are fluorescent and bright and they give the film its needed underground feel. Besides the action, the rest of the film is dull as the story is a convoluted mess. The performances from McAvoy and Boutella are convincing but are just not enough to make this story seem more interesting. Theron is the saving grace as she puts in 110%. Charlize spent months training for her role and she even trained with Keanu Reeves. This film really shows off her sex appeal as just about every shot of her in her room depicts her in sexy lingerie getting hammered and smoking her life away. “Atomic Blonde” is entertaining whenever Theron shows up to kick ass but besides that this film falls flat.
